I have a leak on a mk2 07 plate focus coming from the gearbox selector seal, I had this replaced and it didn't fix the leak. I was told by the mechanic that the shaft the seal is connected to must be worn and would need to see a gearbox specialist. Has anyone had or seen this problem before if so what's involved in the fix and cost. Thanks in
Apr 9, 2019. #5. The problem of the transmission popping out of gear is usually fixed by a simple cable adjustment. Although the 5 and 6 speed transmissions are different, the cables do adjust in a similar fusion. Look for the cable ends on the transmission and you should see the adjusters. Place the shifter in the gear that is popping out

When I move from first/third backwards to second/fourth the gear mechanism squeaks and it sounds like it’s coming from under the gearstick casing in the cabin 3. Vehicle starts in another gear. If your vehicle starts in any other gear besides park or neutral, there is a problem. It could be with the shift interlock solenoid or with the shift selector cable. A mechanic needs to diagnose this problem to differentiate between the two as they can have similar symptoms.
