So for dark souls 3 there’s a two step verification: one that you at the back of the opponent and another that the opponent is still there, if they roll out in time you get the pseudo backstab. Hey, so to explain my issue, I can get backstabs easy enough in PvE, However in PvP I seem incapable of getting backstabs, my character refuses to even play the backstab attempt animation. I have even tried on afk players, sat behind them and all I get is regular R1's over and over and over :/. If you backstab or riposte, you get critical damage. Critical damage also applies if you attack someone while they're attacking and stagger them, which is cued by a heavy hit sound effect and them taking more damage. This occurs while doing jump attacks as well, due to the large vulnerability window it leaves. #1.
So I'm having trouble increasing my backstab damage. I'm trying to use the quick Souls strategy of killing the summoned NPC just past the Dragon-Kin Mausoleum by backstabbing him. Now, everywhere I look, I'm told he should be easy to backstab, kill in one hit, rinse and repeat.
